Mr. Locksmith-Auto Honda
At Mr. Locksmith-Auto it seems we are facing issues with Honda Laser cut lock failures more and more. In the past few weeks I have done 5 ignitions and two doors. It crosses most models with laser cut keys, Civics Accords, Pilots Elements and others.
The issue is the either the key won’t turn at all in the ignition or the door, in the door it may also be the case where the key turns and becomes jammed in the door and won’t turn back.
Mr. Locksmith-Auto is becoming very adept at dealing with both the door and ignition cylinder issues.
In most cases the issue is with wafers and positions one and two, I have seen other positions cause a problem and it is easily corrected by replacing the wafers with modified wafers.
In the case of the ignition cylinder you first need to remove the steering column covers, from there there are two modules around the ignition cylinder that must be removed, it is a very tight location and there are 4 screws that hold them in. After the antenna rings are removed the cylinder is further held in with a roll pin, removal of this pin can be very difficult. Once the pin is out though the cylinder comes out in your hand.
Disassembly of the cylinder is a story in itself but you can see in the following pictures that with the key in the cylinder that the wafers are not level with the plug, they stick up and this is what causes the cylinder not to be able to turn. Replacement of the offending wafers corrects this.
One thing to note in all this is while the cylinders themselves are a large portion of the problem worn keys will bring about the failure sooner. It is always a good idea to use well cut kets with very little wear.
