If you would like to program your Ford car key by yourself, it is possible. Many of the Ford vehicles nowadays use a transponder key Without the chip in the key, the car will not start.
In order to program the transponder follow the steps below:
1997 Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, 1998 Ford, Mercury
Add duplicate Key:
- Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.
- Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
- Remove the existing key and within 15 seconds insert the new key and turn it to ON (RUN).
- The security light will light up for 2 seconds to indicate success in programming the key into the vehicle
1998+ Ford, Lincoln, Mercury 1999+ Ford Mercury
Add duplicate Key (*Requires two working keys that start the car)
- Insert an existing working key into the ignition cylinder.
- Turn the ignition cyllinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
- Remove the existing key and within 5 seconds insert the 2nd key working key and turn it to ON (RUN) then back OFF.
- Insert the new key before 10 seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN) Leave it on for 1 second and turn back to OFF.
- The security light will light up for 3 seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.
Note: If you don’t have two working keys out car locksmiths have the Programmer and Diagnostic Tools to re-program the vehicle.
Remotes
FORD Focus (Radio 3 Button) – Key Remote Programming
- Switch Ignition On/Off (II/0) 4 times within 6 seconds until a sound is made.
- Press any button on Remote until a sound is made.
- To program additional Remotes, repeat after 2 seconds after the sound.
- Turn Ignition On/Off to exit.
- A maximum of 4 remotes can be programmed.
FORD Cougar (Radio 3 Button) – Key Remote Programming
- Turn Ignition On (II) and Off (0) 4 times within 6 seconds
- With the Ignition at 0 the PATS LED should light continuously.
- Press any button on the Radio Remote within 10 seconds
- The LED should flash to acknowledge
- Further Remotes (max. 4) can be added by pressing any button.
- Program mode will end if Ignition turned on, or no new Remote Detected within 10 seconds
NOTE : The first Cougars were 3 seconds instead of 6, and 20 seconds instead of 10.
