  1. Reading the Gas Cap Lock
    Since the ignition lock on this particular motorcycle was too worn and sloppy to read, we started with the gas cap lock. The AccuReader tool allows us to measure the depth of each wafer accurately.

    • Insert the slide tool into the lock to prevent trapping the wafers prematurely.
    • Shake the tool gently to seat the wafers correctly in their slots.
    • Begin measuring by aligning the depth indicators (e.g., 3, 2, 1) with the markings on the tool until the correct depth is determined.
    • Repeat this process for all six wafers in the gas cap lock.
  1. Decoding the Key
    After determining the depths for all wafers, we use the Blackhawk online program to decode the key. This software calculates the key cuts and generates potential key combinations.
  2. Creating the Key
    With the decoded information, we cut a new key using the KA-XXXX blank. The key is then tested on the gas cap, seat compartment, and ignition to ensure functionality.

Challenges with the Motorcycle Ignition Lock

While the gas cap and seat compartment locks were straightforward to decode, the ignition lock posed a challenge due to its excessive wear and additional wafers. Using the gas cap and seat compartment data, we applied the “fill” method in the Blackhawk program to generate the appropriate key code for the ignition.
